There are not many retailers who can attract tens of thousands of visitors to a store on a single day, let alone serve them all, and yet IKEA continually excels at providing their customers with high quality service, which keeps shoppers coming back for more. An enterprise wide solution, provided by K3 Landsteinar, lies at the heart of this success. Now, the opening of two new IKEA stores in Perth, Australia, and Athens, Greece, provide yet further testimony to both the strength of the business and the quality of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and LS Retail.
When the new IKEA store in Perth opened on the 14th of February thousands of customers were eager to take in the fresh IKEA experience, some even lining up outside the store from midnight, waiting for the doors to open. With a queue that stretched for nearly a kilometre, bargain hunters were ready to rush in and check out the new two-storey 26,600m2 store; Western Australia's biggest retail tenant building.
The new store replaced the old IKEA store, with more than four times the size. The self serve area alone is larger than the previous store's floor space. Operated by CEBAS Pty. Ltd., which also operates the IKEA Adelaide store, the new IKEA has been hailed as a fantastic success by both customers and local media.
On the 26th of March another new IKEA store opened, in Athens, Greece, and experienced 26,000 visitors, 7,930 sales transactions and 23,000 items sold in the restaurant and the Swedish food market on the opening day alone. In addition to the large showrooms and a warehouse, the new 25,000m2 store includes four restaurants, two cafes and two Swedish food markets. Located in the centre of Athens, it is only five kilometres from the Acropolis.
This is the third IKEA Store in Greece operated by the Fourlis Group, the IKEA franchisees in Greece, which also operates an IKEA store in Cyprus, and is planning to open several new stores both in Greece and neighboring countries within the next few years.
With the inclusion of these two new fantastic stores, a total of 21 IKEA stores are now using the fully integrated ERP solution, based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV and LS Retail, provided by K3 Landsteinar. The K3 Landsteinar solution has been modified to integrate IKEA specific procedures and covers all areas of the store operations; from financials, range management, logistics and external warehouses to check-outs, restaurants and cafes.
